Mia Learns The Importance Of Using Proper Key Word Strategy To Increase Traffic To Her Website
By: Debbie Barth

Search-engine spiders depend on key words to find specific web sites. With that in mind, choosing the right keywords is extremely important to Mia?s success in the SEO process. Simply put, keywords are the words specific to the content of her site. They are used as road signs, so to speak, that will lead visitors to her site and also determine just how visible her site will become within the search engines. Keep in mind that the goal is not to just get visitors to Mia?s site, but targeted visitors that land on her site because of the service or product that she offers. In order for Mia to get targeted visitors to her site, and to increase her sales and marketing potential, Mia needs to use specific (tightly themed) keywords.

Mia?s web site offers audio books. Not just any audio books, but specific to different exercise programs such as yoga and tai chi; originally put out in hard-cover. During Mia?s research, she discovers that she does not want to use the single word "audio", because it brings up different items like audio reviews, audio engineering, etc. Nor does she want to use just the word ?book?. Using ?book? in a google search will bring up Amazon, etc and a myriad of book web sites, putting Mia?s web site somewhere in a black hole. Obviously ?audio books? is a better choice, but still really not the best choice. Again the term is too general to get Mia?s site visible before a potential visitor goes elsewhere. Mia then tries a more specific phrase, ?yoga audio books? and finds that this search reveals more sites somewhat in line with her products, but not specific to just yoga audio books. This is actually good, because if the visitor is looking only for yoga audio books, her web site holds the potential of being the one that draws the visitor. Another phrase that Mia likes is ?audio books about yoga?. Mia is now getting the hang of creating keywords for her web site. She comes up with a basic formula to use with other keyword phrases she will want to create for her web site. Looking at the formula, it becomes clear that 2-4 word phrases are more powerful in bringing visitors to her web site rather than just using one-word keywords.

audiobooksaudio booksyoga audio booksaudio books about yoga

However, there is still more to keywords than coming up with the proper words. Once Mia has chosen the correct keywords to describe her site, she must remember to use those keywords throughout the actual body of written content on her web site. Even better, she must also make use of her keywords in her web site title as well, for optimum success.

There is a word of caution for Mia as well. She must avoid using the same keywords repetitiously. Using flagrant repetition of keywords could penalized Mia, or actually get Mia banned altogether. Better to use keywords only one time each in Mia?s Title and within the Meta Tags of Mia?s web page html. There is an exception, however, to this rule. Mia can repeat the same keyword and phrase within the actual text of her web site IF the content is relevant to the message within the text.

Mia is feeling comfortable with keywords now, but finds it somewhat time-consuming to do all the research needed to find what keywords people searching the internet are using today. There is a strategy for using key words and with keeping up with the latest strategies and tactics; even the most creative person can be left in the dust by competitive web sites. With that in mind, it would do Mia good to find an expert in this area who has access to the necessary tools for tracking and measuring the impact of key words, and which would be more suitable for Mia?s web site on any given day. There are many who offer SEO services. Mia needs to search carefully for the right person or company that has years of experience in SEO and the internet, and must also compare the costs involved for these services.
