From 0 to 1000 Visitors Part 2 Finding Niches
By: Bhavesh Patel

But we need to have a starting point.

And in our plan, this starting point can be found in the basics.

Acknowledge The Fact That You Cannot Conquer Every Market

There are some keywords that are garnering millions of searches per day. They are quite tempting. With that many people searching for information on that particular subject, you?re sure to get enough visitors to your website, right?

Wrong!

Subjects that are fetching that many searches usually have more websites catering to them. A keyword may garner a million searches, for example, but a cursory search at Google will reveal 20 billion web pages catering to the same.

The demand is there. But the supply is high. And if we will follow the basic rule of economics, the chances of being profitable with the said subject will be low? very, very low. You simply cannot compete with those many web pages, more so when a good number of them have established themselves in the top positions for many years and counting.

The Key: Finding A Niche

The more profitable alternative is to find a keyword that is fetching a substantial number of searches but does not have that many web pages providing information for the same.

First, try using the free tools at www.inventory.overture.com or www.nichebot.com . My personal favorite is http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion because of its ability to provide regional breakdowns. Simply type in any keyword you wish to target. Study the results.

As much as possible, try to find a keyword that fetches at least 70,000 searches per day.

Once you find one, run a search of the same keyword over at Google. Study how many web pages cater to the subject. If the number of web pages that appear are less than the number of searches made per day, then you have for yourself a potential goldmine.

In the internet marketing industry, this is what people call as a niche ? a highly segmented section of a market where people are desperate for information because only a few resources are providing the same.

Niches are usually hungry markets. They desire information. And if you can provide such, they will patronize whatever it is you have to offer.

Where Can You Find Keywords?

All of the things we have discussed so far presuppose the fact that you already have a pool of keywords at hand. The question that begs for an answer, however, is how can you find the keywords that will form that pool?

Keywords represent topics, and the idea for topics to pursue come from inspirations. Inspirations are never forced. As often is the case, they come to you at the most unexpected times. You may be riding the bus and you saw a billboard about a subject that has not been exploited online. Or you may be reading the papers while enjoying your morning coffee and you encounter a subject that can be very lucrative in the World Wide Web.

I make it a point to carry a small notebook with me wherever I go. This way, I can always jot down the ideas whenever they arrive. The frailties of human memory make us tend to forget the strokes of geniuses that we have during the day, and writing them down will go a long, long way in remembering them and using them later on.

Some enterprising online businessmen collect a set of keywords and sell the same to anyone who is interested. These can be great resources as well, as some of these NETrepreneurs spent countless hours researching the relevant statistics for the keywords they are offering.
